Thoroughbred race horse bust of a horse running all out. Head and neck stretched out, ears back, and mane flying in full gallop! This all aluminum sculpture will not rust if used outdoors. Constructed from 55 seperate pieces hand cut, then shaped with mallot on leather sand bag. A 4'x4' 1/8" thick sheet of flat aluminum was used in construction. All the pieces were welded together, the welds were ground and sanded smooth. then the sculpture was polished to a mirror finish, the flying mane was left matte for contrast.

I wanted to share with you my 5 submissions to Horse Mania a local public art initiative sponsored by LexArts. LexArts is greater Lexington's premier cultural development, advocacy and fund raising organization.
As both the area arts council and united arts fund, LexArts provides a wide range of programs and services designed to integrate the arts into our daily lives including the Downtown Gallery Hop.
Horse Mania Overview
Artists from Kentucky and from around the world were juried in a two-step process to paint and embellish 89 Life-sized fiberglass horses for outdoor display in and around Lexington, Kentucky.
Three different fiberglass horse designs measuring six by eight feet and weighing between 115 and 140 lbs were available to pick from. After painting the horses they were mounted on a concrete pallet; an identifying plaque was affixed to the pallet naming the horse, the artist, and sponsor.
This was in conjunction with Lexington hosting the World Equestrian Games.
The largest sporting event ever held in Kentucky, the games are known as the Olympics for horses and were held outside of Europe for the first time ever. The Kentucky Horse Park was abuzz with unprecedented excitement as eight world championship events unfolded in dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, para dressage, reining and vaulting.
The equestrian games are held every four years, two years prior to the Olympic Games. Sponsored by Alltech, an international feed products company based in Kentucky, the games attracted the world’s attention as tens of thousands of spectators from out-of-state and nearly 2,000 accredited journalists converged on the horse park in Lexington for 16 days of competition starting Sept. 25. NBC held 6.5 hours of international broadcast coverage of the games as well.
